5 Predictions for 2010

5. GOP takes back the House by slim margin but not the Senate

Without a cogent set of principles or an articulate national leader, the GOP will accomplish much as an opposition party, but not as much as they could as an opposition party with a vision.

4. 1 big upset in Senate elections

Whether it is a GOP win in New York or Massachusetts, or a takedown of a high profile member like Sen. Maj. Ldr. Harry Reid or Sen. Boxer (D, CA) one of these upsets is bound to occur. My money is on the GOP taking down Harry Reid.

3. Talk of primary challenge to Pres. Obama heats up

As the GOP does well in the midterms, Pres. Obama’s approval keeps slipping, and the economy stays stuck in neutral, the talk to replacing Pres. Obama on the 2012 ticket might become fairly serious. No doubt, were this to occur, Hillary Clinton’s name would be involved.

2. Pres. Obama gets tough with Iran

The Iranian regime is clearly not open to dialogue. Worse yet, dissident citizens have been injured or killed for speaking up for freedom and democracy. As Iran’s race toward the bomb continues, Obama will receive pressure from many side to take more drastic action.

1. Supreme Court battle for the ages

It is quite likely the Court will see a vacancy this year—the two prime candidates for retirement are Justices Ginsburg and Stevens. In an election year, with the president struggling and the opposition party looking for a voice, a knockdown-drag-out fight over a potential court vacancy would seem to be inevitable. What ensues could be the most contentious nomination process since Justice Thomas.
